Dr Joan Osa Oviawe, Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), says the state has spent over N6 billion on infrastructure provision for its public primary schools in the last three years.
Osa- Oviawe made the on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists as part of activities marking the third year anniversary of the launch of Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST ).
According to her, the amount includes state and counterpart funding for infrastructure, to ensure quality education.
She explained that only 186 public primary schools had not been linked to the EdoBEST programme out of the 1,046 in the state.

Court restrains NUT from embarking on industrial action
Public primary school teachers under the auspice of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), yesterday, defied the Edo State Government’s directive to resume academic activities. x
The primary school teachers had on January 18, 2021, declared an indefinite strike to protest against the state government’s non-implementation of its 10-point demands.
In a statement issued by Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, on Thursday, January 28, he had threatened forfeiture of salaries and enforcement of ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy on the teachers if they failed to resume.
But in a statement, the NUT insisted that it would continue to push for its demands and advised parents to keep their children and wards away from public primary school since its members were on strike.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Edo State chapter on Tuesday defied the National Industrial Court order which restrained it from embarking on strike action.
The National Industrial Court sitting in Benin City had on Monday in a suit filed by the State Government and the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in a Suit No. NICN/BEN/04/2021, restrained the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) from proceeding on any strike action in Edo State Primary schools.
However, reacting to the restraining order, the state leadership of NUT said it had not been served with any processes or documents of a court injunction against the ongoing strike action that commenced on the 18th of January 2021.
