Punch Newspapers Sections Published 19 May 2021 The Edo State government is set to benefit $250m worth of financing from the United States of America for oil palm and cassava value chain development, special agro-processing zones and renewable energy infrastructure in the state. This was disclosed at the Fayus oil palm plantation expansion ribbon-cutting ceremony in Ewan Usi community, Uhunmwonde LGA, by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, through the state’s Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq. Okungbowa noted that the state was keen on providing necessary incentives to investors in the oil palm and cassava value chain in the state.

Edo to benefit from $250 million foreign investment

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki said the state is set to benefit from a U.S. government’s financing to the tune of $250 million for oil palm and cassava value chain development. Mr Obaseki said that the facility would also be invested in special agro-processing zones and renewable energy infrastructure in Edo. The governor disclosed this on Tuesday at the Fayus Oil Palm Plantation expansion inauguration ceremony in Ewan Usi community, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state. He said his administration was committed to providing a conducive environment for investors in the state, as part of concerted efforts to diversify the state’s economy and provide jobs for its teeming youths.

Speaking in Benin during the commemoration of Mother Earth Day, Governor Obaseki reminded of the need to restore the earth and ensure the survival of the ecosystem that supports life and living. He said: “In Edo State, we are committed to protecting our flora and fauna, ensuring that concerted efforts are made to protect biodiversity and sustain our unique ecosystem.” He noted that the state sits on an exquisite rainforest belt, which affords it the opportunity of exploring the production of cash crops, adding that it will not sacrifice the needs of its communities in the pursuit of commercial gains.

According to him, “As we mark the International Mother Earth Day, we are reminded of the need to restore the earth and ensure the survival of the ecosystem that supports life and living. “In Edo State, we are committed to protecting our flora and fauna, ensuring that concerted efforts are made to protect biodiversity and sustain our unique ecosystem.”
