Gunmen abduct Edo HoS, kill driver

UNIDENTIFIED gunmen suspected to be kidnappers yesterday evening kidnapped the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa along Oza Road, in Orhiomwon Local Government Area of the state.
In the process of kidnapping Okungbowa, his driver was repeatedly killed.
The HoS was said to be coming from a social event organised by a politician in Orhionmwon local government area.
A staff in government house on condition of anonymity said “He was kidnapped on his way back to Benin City after attending a local event in Oza. His driver was killed,” he said.

The HoS was said to be coming from a social event organised by a politician in Orhionmwon local government area.
A staff in government house on condition of anonymity said “He was kidnapped on his way back to Benin City after attending a local event in Oza. His driver was killed,” he said.
Effort to confirm the incident from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, was not successful as he did not pick up calls and he was said to have traveled for an official course.
Kidnappers of Edo HoS yet to open communication, orderly still missing

SOURCES close to the family of the abducted Edo State Head of Service , Anthony Okungbowa, yesterday said there is no communication yet to any member of the family since he was kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday evening.
It was also disclosed that the whereabouts of the police orderly who is usually with the kidnapped top civil servant is still unknown.
The source said, “From the information available from the family, no contact has been made by his abductors. The police orderly that is usually with him has not also been seen. It is not clear whether he was with him on Saturday when he was kidnapped. We are just keeping our fingers crossed and praying to God for all to be well,” he said.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers has abducted the Edo State Head of Service, HoS, Anthony Okungbowa.
Okungbowa was kidnapped on Saturday evening along Oza Road, off Benin Asaba express way in Orhiomwon Local Government Area of the state.
During the incident his driver was reportedly killed in the process of kidnapping the Head of Service.
The HoS was said to be coming from a social event organised by a politician in the LGA.
According to staff within the state government, who spoke with DAILY POST and opted to be anonymous anonymity said: “He was kidnapped on his way back to Benin City after attending a local event in Oza. His driver was killed.”
A source within the security, who confirmed the incident, said details of Okungbowa’s abduction is sketchy.
“But, it happened outside Benin. We are trying to get across to them,” the source said.
Efforts to get confirmation from the State Commissioner of police, Mr. Babatunde Kokumo, and the Police Public Relations Officer in the State Command, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, were not successful as calls to them were not answered.
Okungbowa was appointed head of service by Governor Godwin Obaseki in May 2020.
