Nigerian Army to train correctional officers on foiling jailbreaks

Daily Post Nigeria Published The Nigerian Army says it will train Nigerian Correctional Service personnel (NCoS) on prison protection. The Acting Controller General of Corrections, John Mrabure had, in a letter to the Chief of Army Staff, requested assistance to that effect. The engagement will help the personnel suppress armed non-state actors. Recall that at least 3 jailbreaks have happened in Nigeria in the last six months, with some unsuccessful attempts. Francis Enobore, NCos spokesman, in a statement disclosed that the training will cover “relevant tactical components”. He said the partnership with the Army is one of the strategies to resist and prevent further violation of custodial centres.

Share A family feud between two siblings, Kadir and Suleiman, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, on Friday, resulted in the death of the younger one, Suleiman, who was stabbed to death by his elder brother, Kadir. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the brawl started when Suleiman scolded Kadir’s wife for being rude to her mother-in-law, the siblings’ mother, and the matter did not go down well with Kadir, who felt slighted that his younger brother had the guts to rebuke his (Kadir’s) wife. Kadir, who was said to be away when the altercation between his mother and his wife occurred allegedly engaged the victim who was his younger brother in a brawl but, their mother’s intervention calmed frayed their nerves.

Suspected Herdsmen Kill Seven in Edo Communities

Adibe Emenyonu in Benin City Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly killed no fewer than seven persons, including farmers in Edo State. The gruesome attack was said to have been carried out yesterday at Ugboke, Oshodi, Okokodo, Ariyan and Yoruba camp situated in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state. According to Mrs Janet Ighodaro, an indigene of the area, “ the suspected herdsmen took over the popularly known Yoruba camp located in Ovia North-east as a base to launch attack on the various communities in our state.” Ighodaro said she was lucky to escape stray bullets flying around as she ran for safety to take refuge with her family in Benin, the state capital, explaining further that the suspected gunmen shot sporadically killing and leaving seven dead.

Adibe Emenyonu in Benin-city The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Immigrations Service (NIS), Mrs. Bridget Esene, was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen yesterday on her way to church. The gunmen were said to have trailed her when she was going to church on Sunday morning around Ikhueniro area, off Agbor Road in Benin-city, where she was accosted and dragged out of her car and taken into the kidnappers’ waiting vehicle to an unknown destination. As at press time, the kidnappers are yet to make any contact for any ransom. A source at the Immigration Service, while confirming the incident, said: “She was abducted at her church premises around Agbor road area this (yesterday) morning. Her whereabouts is yet unknown as her abductors are yet to speak with her family.
