EDF unveils Glassthorpe solar plan

EDF Renewables has taken the wraps off plans for the almost 50MW Glassthorpe solar farm in England. The 49.9MW project, located between the villages of Flore and Upper Heyford along the M1 Corridor, which will be capable of generating enough low carbon electricity for the domestic needs of 9562 households annually, the French developer said. A number of ecological and feasibility surveys have been carried out and the company is consulting with local people at an early stage about the proposal to get their views ahead of submitting a planning application later this year.  EDF Renewables head of development Stephen Walls said: “This is an excellent site for a solar farm, as it’s suitably sunny, with an agreed grid connection, and the area is well screened.

EDF hits monopile milestone at Saint-Nazaire

Contractors DEME Offshore and Eiffage Metal hit the milestone over the weekend. The Belgian marine company said installation represents the first use of a 60-metre high, in-house designed ‘MODIGA’. “This innovative equipment encapsulates the drilling and installation operations and shields them from the adverse Atlantic marine conditions, enhancing operational working time,” said DEME. “The MODIGA is deployed from our jack-up installation vessel Innovation.” The wind farm is expected to come online next year. EDF Renewables starts up 344MW Brazil wind

EDF Renewables has begun operations at the 344MW Folha Larga Norte wind farm complex in Brazil.   The Folha Larga Norte wind farm consists of 82 wind turbines and is located in Campo Formoso in the state of Bahia. A total of 800 people were involved in the wind farm’s construction, mainly using local labour. EDF Renewables begun construction of the project following the award of long-term energy contracts in two Brazilian federal competitive tenders in 2018. The plant has also been awarded corporate power purchase agreements (PPA), including a 20-year PPA signed with petrochemicals company Braskem. Since EDF Renewables first expanded into Brazil in 2015, it has built up a 1300 MW portfolio in wind and solar energy projects.
