Updated: 6:42 PM EST Jan 11, 2021 The National Hockey League announced Monday that the Boston Bruins will play a game in Lake Tahoe next month.The Bruins are scheduled to face the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. along the south shore of America s largest alpine lake.The game will be part of the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe two-day event, as the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights will play at 3 p.m. the day before.Both games will officially be held at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort in Stateline, Nevada, which is along the border of California. The rink will be located on the lakefront 18th fairway of the resort s golf course, according to the NHL.Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this will mark the only time the Bruins are scheduled to travel west of Pittsburgh or south of Washington, D.C. NHL officials said on Monday that they were blown away with Lake Tahoe and its proven track record for hosting major events.
“We went to Tahoe, a very small group, and we were blown away by the setting, the blank canvas that it presents for us,” NHL chief content producer Steve Mayer said. “It’s hosted major events before. We felt very confident, especially in a short time frame, that we would be able to hold a world-class event and Tahoe will be a great host. It was a pretty easy decision.”
