The William Randolph Hearst Foundation has awarded $125,000 to the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) to fund scholarships for 50 VCOM medical students pursuing careers in primary care medicine.
In receiving news of the grant, VCOM President and Provost Dixie Tooke-Rawlins said, “We appreciate so much the commitment of The Hearst Foundations. As a medical school committed to educating physicians to serve rural and medically underserved populations, and a focus on the southern Appalachian and Delta regions of the southeastern United States, our mission aligns well with the commitment of the Hearst Foundations. The scholarship will help to support our students with this goal as well as the lives of the patients they will serve.”

Event Description
The University of Louisiana Monroe Fifth Annual Women’s Symposium in partnership with the ULM Alumni Association has a theme of “WINGS – Women Influencing the Next Generation of Success” and also celebrates March as Women’s History Month.
The symposium’s mission is to empower, motivate, and encourage girls and women from all backgrounds and all educational and professional levels to pursue their passions and seek leadership roles in their careers.
The move to a virtual platform is to make the symposium accessible to as many people as possible.
The symposium opens with keynote speaker Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed, Ph.D.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WIS) - A new COVID-19 vaccination clinic has opened in the northside community in Spartanburg.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has partnered with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine to co-locate a COVID-19 vaccination clinic within the collegeâs health department.
During the grand opening of the Northside Clinic, Governor Henry McMaster and Senator Josh Kimbrell joined DHEC Director Dr. Edward Simmer, VCOM President Dr. Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, and local leaders toured the new clinic.
