BAGHDAD, May 3 (Reuters) - Iraq is considering buying ExxonMobil s stake in the southern West Qurna 1 oilfield through the state-owned Basra Oil Company, the country s oil minister said on Monday.
The oil ministry is discussing BOC taking ownership of the Exxon stake in West Qurna 1 and leading the project, as happened with Majnoon, Ihsan Abdul Jabbar told a news conference, referring to the huge Majnoon oilfield in Iraq s south.
Iraq said last month that ExxonMobil was seeking to sell its 32.7% stake in the West Qurna 1 field, and that the oil ministry had started discussions with U.S. oil companies over a possible purchase.

BAGHDAD, April 29 (Xinhua) Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar and his Syrian counterpart Bassam Touma discussed here on Thursday the possibility of transporting Egyptian natural gas to Iraq through the Syrian territories.
A statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil said that Abdul-Jabbar received in his office Touma and his accompanying delegation, and the two sides discussed issues of common interest and future visions regarding the benefiting from the Egyptian gas and the possibility of transporting it through the Syrian territories.
Abdul-Jabbar said that the move to benefit from the Egyptian gas came as Iraq is keen to strengthen its relations with the countries of the region and the world in all fields, the statement said.

China s crude oil imports from top supplier Saudi Arabia rose 8.8% in March from a year earlier, driven by strong demand and as shipments delayed due to a port congestion finally arrived.
Imports from the United Arab Emirates also rose again, up 86%.
Shipments from Saudi Arabia were 7.84 million tons, equivalent to 1.85 million barrels per day (bpd), data issued by China s General Administration of Customs showed on Tuesday, versus 1.7 million bpd a year earlier. The imports, however, slowed from 1.94 million bpd in February.
Chinese firm Sinopec wins contract to develop Iraqi gas field: Beijing
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Ministry of Oil in Beijing said on Tuesday that the Chinese company Sinopec has just won a contract to develop Iraq s Mansouriya gas field, located in central Diyala province.
In a ministry statement quoted by Reuters, the ministry explained that Sinopec scored the deal during a recent round of bidding held at Iraq s Ministry of Oil in Baghdad.
The gas obtained from the field, located in the town of al-Mansouriya, will reportedly be used to feed power stations in Diyala and the neighboring capital province of Baghdad.
