CIC Order Protects Erring PIO from Penalty!

 5 We have rarely heard of any recoveries of penalties slammed on public information officers (PIOs), but this one surely takes the cake!    Neeraj Kumar Gupta, the central information commissioner, in an order dated 19 February 2021, states, “If the Central Information Commission (CIC) starts imposing penalty on the PIOs in every other case, without any justification, it would instil a sense of constant apprehension in those functioning as PIOs in the public authorities, and would put undue pressure on them.   They would not be able to fulfil their statutory duties under the Right to Information (RTI) Act with an independent mind and with objectivity.”

UP: Allahabad High Court stays arrest of man booked under anti-conversion law

Express News Service LUCKNOW: The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of a person named Nadeem who was booked under the newly-promulgated UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religious Ordinance-2020, in Muzaffarnagar on November 30. The ordinance was promulgated on November 28, 2020. A division bench, comprising Justice Pankaj Naqvi and Justice Vivek Agarwal, asked the UP Police not to take any coercive action against the accused. The bench also tagged the case to another division bench, comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Piyush Agarwal, which is seized of the matter in response to a PIL challenging the vires of the ordinance.
