MUSKEGON, Mich. â Muskegon Community College will distribute more than $422,000 in coronavirus relief funds to eligible students, according to a news release Wednesday.
Similar to the CARES Act, a portion of the relief passed at the end of 2020 is intended to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted by COVID-19.
âThe COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our students, many of whom are experiencing significant financial hardships as a result,â MCC President Dale K. Nesbary said. âWe are thankful and pleased to be able to provide these funds to our grateful students.â
Congress recently passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, known by most for providing those who qualified with an additional stimulus check worth $600.

The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has expanded to help support more college students who have been impacted financially by the pandemic. Some students now will be eligible to receive up to $200 monthly to pay for groceries.
The funding was approved in December as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill.
“We want students to know that there are resources out there that they might be eligible for. And with this expansion that really opens it up to a considerable number of students that wouldn’t be eligible prior to the CARES Act,” said Douglas Schmaltz, basic needs coordinator in the Ohio University Office of the Dean of Students.
