Asos calls for tighter modern slavery legislation
Asos has today called for the implementation of mandatory human rights due diligence legislation in the UK, in order to strengthen the 2015 Modern Slavery Act, as part of its fifth modern slavery statement.
If implemented, the legislation, which is currently being developed by the European Commission for the EU, would enforce companies to take steps to prevent and mitigate risks to human rights and protect vulnerable people across the supply chain. Businesses would be required to disclose the actions they have taken and will be held to account.
Asos has also included independent commentary from non-governmental organisation Anti-Slavery International in its modern slavery statement. The organisation detailed its views on the challenges faced by the fashion industry and garment manufacturers during the pandemic. It also highlighted the steps brands and retailers should take to address modern slavery risks throughout the supply
