The federal government has heeded the calls to dial up the fear factor in its COVID-19 communications, with a campaign to run just in Sydney highlighting the consequences of contracting the virus.
As part of a revamped COVID-19 vaccination advertising push designed to overcome vaccine hesitancy, a graphic TV ad will air in Sydney only from Sunday evening in an effort to convince Sydneysiders to stay home rather than risk transmitting COVID-19. It comes as the city recorded 77 new cases of the virus on Saturday.
The ad, which comes with a warning that the content is distressing, features a young woman in a hospital bed on a ventilator, the only noise her strangled breathing against a background of hospital beeps. It ends with the message âCOVID-19 can affect anyone. Stay home. Get tested. Book your vaccination.â
