THERE are a series of self-serving indicators that Prime Minister Scott Morrison will go to an early election. They all serve as a reminder of the need for fixed-term elections for the federal government.
The middle ground is where elections are won and lost. Over the last few decades the Liberal Party has been deserting this ground in favour of a more and more conservative approach to politics.

During that time the conservative elements of the party pejoratively labelled the liberal elements as “wets”. These “wets” included former NSW Senator Peter Baume and, in the ACT, former chief ministers Kate Carnell and Gary Humphries.
PM slammed over slow vaccine rollout to disability care residents18/05/2021|4min
The prime minister has been criticised from all sides over the slow rollout in disability care facilities and conceded the Commonwealth has to “step up the performance”.
It was revealed on Monday at a hearing at the disability royal commission that only 999 residents had received the vaccine to midday yesterday, which counsel assisting labelled an “abject failure”.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese went on the attack criticising the government for leaving behind disability care residents in the vaccine rollout.

In our first world nation, one per cent of the population owns 90 per cent of wealth. The imbalance between rich and poor is exacerbated by the great wealth divide.
A land of opportunity for some, who can access education and resources and prosper, does not apply to those living below the poverty line.
It was Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke who boasted no Australian child will live in poverty by 1990 yet, here we are in 2021, with three million children living in poverty; in cars, on the streets, “couch surfing” or in “care”.

Health experts say NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklianâs benchmark of having about 80 per cent of adults vaccinated against the coronavirus before reopening international borders is a realistic goal.
Ms Berejiklianâs intervention comes amid growing pressure on Prime Minister Scott Morrison from business, health experts and Liberal MPs to outline a timetable to restart international travel.

Mr Morrison said on Monday the government was working on a âsliding scaleâ approach on easing travel restrictions, starting with allowing fully vaccinated people to travel freely between states and allowing some foreigners in, in a controlled move to meet specialist labour shortages and allow study here.
