Labor leader pushes for JobKeeper extension amid regional Qld campaign

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese is demanding JobKeeper payments continue beyond the March cut off date for struggling tourism operators as he tours Queensland in a bid to win back regional voters. Mr Albanese has embarked on a six-day campaign across Queensland and is warning the public unless more action is taken by the Morrison government, jobs will be lost when the JobKeeper subsidy ends. “The benefit of wage subsidies is all about keeping the relationship between an employer and their workers," he said.

Albanese: I have one message for Queenslanders, I m on your side

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has addressed Queenslanders during a six-day campaign, reminding people that Labor is on the side of the people. “I have one message for Queenslanders: I’m on your side,” he said. “I’m on your side when it comes to job creation. “I’m on your side when it comes to ensuring that Australia is resilient.” Mr Albanese said Australians need to learn the lessons which the pandemic has been teaching and recognise and address areas in which Australian systems or institutions have been found vulnerable. “We didn’t even have enough personal protective equipment”. “What we need to do is ensure we invest in ourselves; that we have self-confidence as a nation.”

We re in the naughty corner : Albanese slams PM on climate policy

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has kicked off a week-long tour in Queensland, slamming the Morrison government’s lack of action on climate change. Mr Albanese claimed Australia was falling behind the rest of the world. “The outlier here is Scott Morrison; Scott Morrison who refuses to commit to net zero emissions by 2050 and I saw in one newspaper today that was ambitious that he was trying to get there," he said. “We’re behind. We’re in the naughty corner”. Mr Albanese also supported Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s hard border closures saying, “you can’t have jobs and economic activity unless people are kept safe”. “I think Premier Palaszczuk has got it right at every call."

Mr Albanese s six-day Queensland jobs tour kicked-off in Brisbane on Saturday morning with a visit to the Southbank Collective Markets before travelling north to the struggling Far North Queensland. One of the things I ll be saying to Queenslanders during this visit is we re on your side - we re on your side when it comes to jobs, he said.
