LAHORE: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan says the government is playing its part efficiently by identifying the corrupt and presenting proofs to the institutions and now it is duty of all the institutions, including judiciary, to punish the culprits.
Speaking to the media at the Akhuwat office on Thursday, Dr Awan said the grant of bail to Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif did not mean that the allegations did not prove or the case had concluded. She also chided the PML-N spokespersons for making statements as if Shehbaz had been exonerated from all charges as the trial in the case was yet to be held. The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday observed that decisions on bail matters can only be made after knowing all the facts.
The LHC observed this while taking up the bail petition of Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif. A three-member bench, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, and comprising Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Shahbaz Rizvi, heard the case.
During the hearing, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s counsels Senator Azam Nazir Tarar and Amjad Pervez argued that they do not want to take the case back to where it began from.

A LHC division bench comprising Justice Sardar Sarfraz Ahmed Dogar and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural ordered the jail authorities for immediate release of PML-N Chief and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case.
A LHC division bench comprising Justice Sarfraz Ahmed Dogar and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural passed the order on petition moved by Shehbaz Sharif. The bench granted him bail against two surety bond worth Rs 5 million.
The court directed the jail authorities for immediate release of Shehbaz Sharif.
It is a major political development and big relief for the PML-N during these testing times. Last month, Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly, was granted bail Chaudhary Sugar mills case.

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has closed 20-year old last two inquiries against the Chaudhrys of Gujrat for want of evidence.
The NAB told the Lahore High Court on Wednesday that two last inquiries pending for 20 years against PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, MNA Moonis Elahi and their family members had been closed because of ‘lack of evidence’.
Recently, the NAB had closed inquiries against former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Lahore Development Authority plots allotment, Raiwind land expansion against Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and the purchase of locomotives against former railways minister Khwaja Saad Rafique on similar grounds.

LAHORE: A day before an important huddle of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Jati Umra, Raiwind, to hammer out the issue of en mass resignations from the assemblies, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) secretary general Mohammad Ali Durrani called on PDM president Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Thursday night to convey to him a “message” about finding some other way instead of pursuing a collision course that may lead to wrapping up of the “democratic system”.
This is Mr Durrani’s second meeting with the PDM leadership within a week. Earlier, he met PML-N president and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail, asking him to play a role in convincing the opposition not to quit assemblies and initiation of a grand dialogue.
