26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi arrested in Pakistan
The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operations commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi (61) was arrested on Saturday in Pakistan on terror financing charges, according to an official statement.
The arrest came amidst growing international pressure on Islamabad to bring to justice terrorists roaming freely in the country.
The UN proscribed terrorist Lakhvi, who was on bail since 2015 in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case. He was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province. Sources in CTD told PTI that Lakhvi was arrested from Lahore.
âFollowing an intelligence-based operation conducted by the CTD Punjab, proscribed organisation LeT leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was arrested on charges of terrorism financing,â the CTD said in an official statement.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Lahore also imposed a 200,000 Pakistani rupees (PKR) fine on Saeed.
The 70-year-old radical cleric has already been convicted for 21 years imprisonment in four terror financing cases of late.
“On Thursday an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Lahore sentenced five leaders of Jamat-ud-Dawa, including its chief Hafiz Saeed, in another terror financing case…For 15 and a half years,” a court official said.
Now, Saeed will have to undergo collective imprisonment of over 36 years in five terror financing cases at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. His punishment will run concurrently in these cases. There are reports that he is given “VIP protocol” in jail.

Of these cases, the total number disposed of till Nov 30, 2020, was 4,782 and the balance of cases carried forward is 2,072.
