15 child labourers rescued in Telangana ANI | Updated: Jan 10, 2021 06:20 IST Rangareddy (Telangana) [India], January 10 (ANI): As many as 15 children who were working at Plaster of Paris companies and a liquor bottle cleaning unit at Kalanagar and Pasumamula village in Hayathnagar were rescued by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in Telangana s Rangareddy district on Friday, police said. An accused Channabathina Ravi (30) of Shiva Traders, who employed the children, has been arrested by police while two others have escaped. Children between eight to 15-years-old were detained and forced to work in hazardous conditions, a team raided Shiva Traders, which cleans empty liquor bottles, at Pasumamula and rescued five girls from the same village, police added.

Among the traced children, 771 were boys and 945 girls. Some of them had been missing for a long time, an official statement said. The police have also rescued 1,189 child beggars and 1,941 child labourers this year. Director General of Police Manoj Yadava said apart from maintaining law and order and curbing crime, the officers and policemen prioritised tracing and reuniting missing children with their family.

Of the five rescued all aged between 3 to 10 years, four were siblings forced into begging by their father and were given a target of collecting Rs 500 daily. They further informed police that if they failed to achieve the target, their father would thrash them. The children were sent to Children Home in Katargam and Rander since their parents were yet to be traced. The rescue operation by AHTU is part of the special drive ordered by city police commissioner Ajay Tomar.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit sleuths tracked the girl after a prolonged shadowing of some of the pimps. “We had to patiently wait and follow different women who were taking the girl in different vehicles across the city for more than five hours,” Inspector of Police Hemamala said. Finally, when the girl was intercepted with a male customer, the police arrested the pimps, including the girl’s aunt, who has been into flesh trade for so several years. The police found that the minor girl was one of the six children of a poor widow. The aunt had taken the girl few years back and slowly pushed her into prostitution for the last three years.
