The Janata Dal United on Monday took potshots at Chirag Paswan after a split in his Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) came out in the open, saying that he was bearing the brunt of his own actions.
Chirag has been left cornered in a revolt led by his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, the LJP MP from Hajipur, and supported by four other party MPs, including nephew Prince Raj.

“There is a saying that you reap what you sow. Chirag is reaping the fruit of his own actions. He was heading a party, which was with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). But he adopted a stance that damaged it in the Assembly polls, leaving the leaders and party workers uneasy and dissatisfied,” JDU national president R.C.P. Singh told mediapersons in Patna.
Although there was no doubt that the ruling BJP-led alliance in Assam will form the government, there was little clarity about the next chief minister in the state, with Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma adding to the mystery by declaring only that the next CM would be from the BJP, without naming Sarbananda Sonowal, the CM of the outgoing government.
The party, which fought in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberal, had originally claimed it would win 100 seats. But the BJP chief in the state, Ranjeet Das, claimed hours before the result that the BJP would win 83 seats. The party could fall short of this figure as it is currently well ahead in 78 of the state s 126 Assembly constituencies. The Opposition Grand Alliance spearheaded by the Congress is ahead in 45 constituencies, but has given up hope of forming a government.

The Election Commission on Friday announced a three-phase polls for Assam to be held on March 27 (47 seats spanning 12 districts), April 1 (39 seats in 13 districts) and April 6 (40 in 12 districts). Counting will take place on May 2.
Tejashwi, whose spirited campaign saw the Opposition’s Grand Alliance give a tough fight to the ruling JD(U)-BJP alliance in last year’s Bihar state polls, reached Guwahati on Friday evening. After visiting the Bhupen Hazarika memorial soon after landing, he met state Congress chief Ripun Bora. On Saturday, he met AIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal and Ajit Bhuyan of the Anchalik Gana Morcha.
The Opposition Grand Alliance in Bihar has announced plans to form a human chain across the state to express support for the farmers protesting at Delhi’s borders and challenged chief minister Nitish Kumar to speak up for the “annadata (food-giver)”.
“We are asking Nitish Kumar why is he mum on the farmers’ protest? We want to ask him whether he supports the three black farm laws that affect 80 per cent of the people of the country. He is not even uttering two words on the issue. Why is he so helpless? The central government has brought these laws not for the annadata, but for the fund-data (fund-givers),” RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said.
