Ethiopia
Between 05 and 08 January 2021: In Tigray region, unidentified perpetrators burned down a WFP storage facility and a clinic run by the Ethiopian Agency for Refugees and Returnees Affairs near the WFP compound, as well as a secondary school run by the Development and Inter-Aid Church Commission, all inside the Shimelba Camp for Eritrean refugees. This Emergency Appeal seeks a total of 27 million Swiss francs to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support three National Societies – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and Djibouti Red Crescent Society (DRCS) to deliver humanitarian assistance to and support early recovery of some 660,000 people (displaced and host communities) in Ethiopia (355,000 people), Sudan (300,000 people), and in Djibouti (5,000 people) affected by multiple disasters and compounding humanitarian vulnerabilities intensified by the Tigray crisis for a period of 18 months. 31 December 2020: In Bijombo village, Mwenga territory, South Kivu province, a group of 50 IDP women who were farming were attacked by militiamen of the Ngumino and Twiganeho coalition led by Michel Rukundo Makanika. As reported on 10 December 2020: In Bamenda town, Mezam department, Northwest region, the provincial government reportedly suspended partnerships between an INGO and Santa Maria Soledad Catholic Hospital Bamenda, as well as other health facilities across the region. 15 November 2020: In Masisi town centre, North Kivu province, a Congolese LNGO aid worker was reportedly shot and killed by unidentified perpetrators. Source AWSD
27 November 2020: Between Bwalanda and Nyanzale villages, North Kivu province, gunmen attacked an INGO aid worker and amputated his arm. He was admitted to Rutshuru General Hospital for treatment. In response, the aid organisation temporarily suspended its activities in the area.

Ethiopia
October: Four Ethiopian aid workers employed by two separate INGOs were killed in Tigray near the border with Eritrea last month during fighting in the northern region. The circumstances of their deaths were unclear, but they took place in one of four camps for Eritrean refugees. There are unconfirmed reports that a fifth aid worker had also died in Tigray.
