Tigray Crisis: Population Movement Complex Emergency - Coordinated Emergency Appeal (Revised Appeal n° MDRTIGRAY) Format This Emergency Appeal seeks a total of 27 million Swiss francs to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support three National Societies – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and Djibouti Red Crescent Society (DRCS) to deliver humanitarian assistance to and support early recovery of some 660,000 people (displaced and host communities) in Ethiopia (355,000 people), Sudan (300,000 people), and in Djibouti (5,000 people) affected by multiple disasters and compounding humanitarian vulnerabilities intensified by the Tigray crisis for a period of 18 months. Ethiopia: ICRC, ERCS deliver emergency assistance to IDPs in Southern Ethiopia Format The ICRC, in partnership with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), delivered emergency assistance to people displaced by ethnic violence that occurred in Konso Zone in Southern Ethiopia. Around 3,000 households (18,000 individuals) displaced as the result of the conflict between different ethnic groups were assisted with non-food items intended to address their emergency needs, remarked Katia Sorin, Head of the ICRC delegation in Ethiopia. Most of the displaced people fled with nothing but their lives. Many, including children, sleep on grounds in open fields, with only ragged clothes on them to keep them warm, says Kuse Hurumale, Chairman of Mele Gena Dungay Kebele in Konso zone. Thus, the assistance not only helps mitigate the suffering of the displaced people but also eases the burden of hosting communities, he added.

UNICEF funds ERCS to strengthen emergency humanitarian response Format Ethiopian Red Cross Society in collaboration with United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) delivered Birr 1.2 Million emergency humanitarian assistance to children and mothers exposed by the conflict in the northern part of Ethiopia. With the support, ERCS reached out 6500 breast feeding moms and children under age 5 particularly Internally Displaced People (IDP) in western Tigray, North Gondor, Shire and Mekelle. The humanitarian supply includes drinking water, essential medicines and nutrition services. Aiming to ease people’s suffering, ERCS with its partners has been providing lifesaving humanitarian assistance to those most affected by the conflict in Tigray.
