Tigray Refugees Speak Of Their Ordeal In Sudan Camp
Ethiopia is offering a reward of more than $250,000 for information on the whereabouts of Tigray’s rebellious leaders who fled the regional capital Mekele three weeks ago
More than 50,000 people have fled to Sudan since fighting erupted in Ethiopia s Tigray region in early November.
Some of those in the Umm Rakouba camp spoke to The Associated Press of their previous lives as volunteer soldiers in the Tigray army and the losses they suffered.
The UN estimates that up to 200,000 people could arrive in Sudan in the next six months, further straining the generosity of local communities and challenging the capacity of humanitarian groups that have hurried to set up a system to feed, shelter, and care for the refugees.

ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, on Saturday said Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and conflict-affected communities are in dire need of humanitarian and recovery assistance after weeks of conflict in Ethiopia s northernmost Tigray regional state. Most of the IDPs now seeking refuge in displacement sites are women and children forced to flee without being able to take their belongings. They are now in dire need of emergency shelter and non-food items, the IOM said in a statement issued on Saturday, as it announced the commencement of operations to assist needy people.
