‘At least’ 78 priests ‘massacred’ in one zone of Tigray, leaked letter claims
The document, obtained exclusively by the Telegraph, claims a number of mass killings have taken place over the last five months

At least 78 priests were ‘massacred’ in one zone of Tigray, according to an official church letter leaked to the
Telegraph.
The letter, which was addressed to the Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, says that “priests, deacons, choristers, and monks” have been “massacred” over the last five months.

The U.S. State Department estimates that 4.5 million people in the predominantly Christian region of northern Ethiopia, known as the Tigray Region, are in need of humanitarian assistance. Thousands of civilians have been killed, and nearly 62,000 refugees have fled to Sudan.
The ongoing conflict is terrorizing civilians in the region, and witness reports of the atrocities are horrifying, to say the least. Artillery strikes have occurred on populated areas, and civilians are being deliberately targeted for extrajudicial killings and widespread looting.
One report found that the Ethiopian troops, in conjunction with Eritrean troops, “led an offensive to take control of [a] city amid the conflict with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front.” During that attack in November 2020, hundreds of unarmed civilians were killed. In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced statements by Ethiopian officials who stated that Sudan is working to bind their country to “colonial agreements”, referring to the 1902 border agreements and the 1959 Nile waters agreements.

U.S. senators to visit Sudan for talks on border dispute with Ethiopia SudanTribube.com April 30, 2021 (KHARTOUM) - U.S. Senators Christopher Coons and Chris Van Hollen will visit Sudan on Monday for talks on the on border dispute with Ethiopia, said the official news agency SUNA.
The two lawmakers who are members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will meet the head of the Sovereign Council, Prime Minister, Justice Minister and Irrigation Minister.
During the 3-day visit, the Democrat senators will also visit Um Rakuba camp for Ethiopian refugees in eastern Sudan Gadaref state.
Coons is perceived in Khartoum as a friend of Sudan because he worked tirelessly last year to bring Sudan out of the terror list and contributed to legislation to protect democratic transition in the East African country.
