Practically this has been a genocide Updated 1:37 PM ET, Mon March 22, 2021 Hamdayet, Sudan More evidence of sexual violence being used as a deliberate weapon of war is emerging from Ethiopia s northern Tigray region, where an armed conflict has been raging for months. Women are being gang-raped, drugged and held hostage, according to medical records and testimonies from survivors shared with CNN. In one case a woman s vagina was stuffed with stones, nails and plastic, according to a video seen by CNN and testimony from one of the doctors who treated her. CNN has spoken with nine doctors in Ethiopia and one in a Sudanese refugee camp who say they ve seen an alarming increase in sexual assault and rape cases since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched a military operation against leaders in Tigray, sending in national troops and fighters from the country s Amhara region. News: Senior staffers at Jimma University accused of coup attempt, Graduate student remains missing By Siyanne Mekonnen Addis Abeba, April 8, 2021 – Ten staffers of Jimma university were arrested this weekend on the grounds of attempting a coup and supporting the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). Eight of the lecturers were arrested on April 2, 2021 while the remaining two were arrested on  April 4th and 5th according to lawyer Obsinan Grima. The team of jimma university staffers including administrators such as the dean, deputy dean of students, academics such as the former vice president of the university as well as lecturers including an associate professor at the department of Surgery made their first appearance in court on April 5, 2021.

The Weeknd announces $1 million donation to feed women and children in Africa

Singer, The Weeknd has announced he’ll be donating $1million to help feed Ethiopians amid the five months old war in the country. The singer-songwriter, whose parents are from Ethiopia and whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye,  said that he will donate to Ethiopian relief efforts through the UN World Food Programme. Thousands of civilians are believed to have been killed, raped and abused during the course of Ethiopia’s war with the Tigray region of the country. There have been reports that Ethiopian soldiers executed unarmed men in Tigray, though Ethiopia’s government has dismissed evidence of these claims.
