Two separate attacks by rebels leave 42 Ethiopian civilians dead - World News

2021-03-12 14:30:28 GMT2021-03-12 22:30:28(Beijing Time) Xinhua English ADDIS ABABA, March 12 (Xinhua) Ethiopian state media outlet, Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) on Friday said two separate attacks by rebels have left 42 civilians dead. EBC reported the first attack which occurred on Sunday left 22 civilians dead and the second attack which happened on Thursday left another 20 civilians dead. Both attacks which happened in the western part of Ethiopia s Oromia regional state were blamed on fighters belonging to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), according to the report. EBA quoting Mulatu Hordofa, Communication Director, Oromia Police Commission, said in the first attack OLA rebels abducted 31 civilians in Dabis locality of Horo-Guduru Wollega zone of Oromia regional state, and later executed 22 of them. The remaining nine abductees managed to escape their captors.

The NEBE disclosed that 8,209 candidates and 47 political parties have registered to participate in the upcoming sixth general elections which is scheduled to be held in less than three-months time, reported state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC). Out of the 8,209 candidates, 125 are standing as independent candidates, with the rest standing as representatives of various political parties. Ethiopia was initially slated to hold its sixth general elections on August 29, 2020.

Ethiopia deploys airplanes, helicopters to fight locust invasion - World News

Abera Lemma, Public Relations Director at Ethiopia Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), said the aircrafts are being used to assess the extent of locust invasion as well as to spray chemicals on locust affected areas. Lemma said the aircrafts are being used in areas located in Ethiopia s Southern, Oromia and Somali regions hit hardest by the locust invasion, reported state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation. Lemma further said there are plans to initiate a community-led campaign to fight the locust invasion which crossed to Ethiopia from neighboring Somalia.
