Ellenville Students K-6 Get Help from Project Resilience
This past year has been tough on everyone. COVID-19 has had us all doing things we never thought we would do. I can imagine being a parent over the last 12 months trying to figure out how to balance working a job and virtual learning. I feel fortunate that I am not of the age to have children trying to go to school at the kitchen table.
A lot of programs have been developed to help people who are in need of help one of which is Project Resilience in Ulster County. This program was developed by Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan in partnership with the Community Foundation and the United Ways. The program is designed to help people who are impacted by the pandemic. They work with local food banks on the increasing amount of food insecurity and they also help Ulster families with other types of support during this difficult time.
Should Yakima School District Kids Return To School?
Should Yakima School District kids return to school? I am not really ready to give a final answer to this question.
When the COVID pandemic first hit, I (along with millions of other parents across the globe) was frantic about choosing the right option for my child s education. My daughter, Willow, at the time, was in 3rd grade in public school in the Yakima District. I can almost taste the air the last day our kids went to class at the school building. It was a cold day in March of 2020. It was the second or third week of the month. Parents were buzzing around the school grounds looking for teachers and administrative staff who could answer our question of, How long will our kids be out of school? We all of a sudden turned into Mean Girl Moms and Dads!
The Dover Teachers Union reacted this week to the news that approximately 40 teaching positions could be eliminated under a new tax-cap compliant budget for the 2022 fiscal year.
Posting to Facebook on Wednesday, the Dover Teachers Union shared that the Dover School District had been tasked with compiling a new budget, according to the post, which added that preliminary estimates could require significant position reductions.
According to those projections, shared by the Dover Teachers Union on Wednesday and originally outlined during a Dover School Board meeting on Monday, those 40 district-wide reductions in teaching positions could include 11 elementary teaching job reductions, 13 middle school reductions, and 16 high school reductions.
Do I Qualify for Phase II of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program?
WSBS recently received an email from Sabrina Ruggiero of Community Health Programs regarding phase two of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts COVID-19 Vaccination program which begins on Feb. 1, 2021.
According to Ruggiero, if you qualify or would like to understand if you qualify to receive a vaccination during this phase, you can go to the Mass.gov website to the COVID-19 page to ascertain this and to find available locations to then signup for an appointment now for a February appointment.
There are several locations in Berkshire County that you can make an appointment to get the vaccine if you qualify:
