What Happened: A new report from Protocol highlights Roku job postings, recent hires and acquisitions all pointing to developing smart home products in-house and through possible partnerships. A Roku spokesperson declined to comment on the rumor but pointed out the company’s whole home audio licensing program. Roku pulled a job listing for a “Director of Product Management, Home Technologies.” The role was seeking someone who could help develop Roku’s home technology product strategy, according to the report.

Share: Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT), has acquired the Phoenix-headquartered telehealth provider MeMD for an undisclosed sum. What Happened: Founded in 2010 by Dr. John Shufeldt, MeMD’s platform enables medical and mental health visits to five million members nationwide via computer, phone and mobile devices. The acquisition will enable Walmart Health to expand its in-person primary care services with access a nationwide network of urgent, behavioral and primary care providers. “Telehealth offers a great opportunity to expand access and reach consumers where they are and complements our brick-and-mortar Walmart Health locations,” said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president for health and wellness at Walmart. “Today, people expect omnichannel access to care, and adding telehealth to our Walmart Health care strategies allows us to provide in-person and digital care across our multiple assets and solutions.”

What Happened: Netflix surveyed select users asking their opinions on new features that could be part of a launch called N-Pus, according to Protocol. The new offerings could create Netflix’s Future online space where you can learn more about the Netflix shows and things related to them. A Netflix spokesperson told Protocol the company regularly surveys users to gather audience feedback. New features could include custom playlists that would be shareable online with friends. If friends did not have a Netflix account, they could see trailers of the movie or show. Custom music from Netflix shows to be added to playlists is also being considered.

Share: Roku Inc (NASDAQ: ROKU) is seeing shares climb after reporting first-quarter earnings after hours Thursday. What Happened: First-quarter revenue for Roku was $574.18 million, coming in well ahead of street estimates of $490.56 million. First-quarter revenue was up 79% year-over-year. The company reported 54 cents in earnings per share in the first quarter, coming in ahead of an expected loss of 15 cents per share by the Street. Roku ended the first quarter with 53.6 million active accounts, up 35% year-over-year. Streaming hours were up 49% year-over-year to 18.3 billion in the first quarter. Roku said that before March, hours streamed were up much more. Revenue was split between the $466.5 million platform segment and the $107.7 million player segment.
