Columbia Public Schools to host virtual public forum Columbia Board of Education The Columbia Board of Education is holding a virtual forum with candidates for the next CPS superintendent. (KMIZ) Columbia Public Schools is set to host a virtual public forum Thursday for the district s three superintendent finalists. These finalists include Dr. Harold Brian Yearwood (Manor, Texas), Dr. Chace Ramey (Iowa City, Iowa), and Dr. Erick Pruitt (Chicago, Illinois). The public forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and will be streamed on the district s website.

CPS Board votes to return to in-person learning 5 days a week

The vote passed unanimously. The start date of the 5-day, in-person learning would be April 5, after spring break concludes. Currently, elementary schools within the CPS system have a four-day in-person learning system, with Wednesdays reserved for online learning. Middle and high school students are currently on a hybrid plan, with in-person classes two days per week and online via Zoom two days per week. Special education students have served in district programs in-person, 5 days a week since September. Under the new plan, all classes will return to in-person learning for five days per week. Students have not been in class full-time since mid-March of 2020.

A release sent out before noon said the board of education has narrowed the search to three candidates. The board hopes to have a new superintendent selected by the end of the month. Monday night, the board of education is expected to discuss an update on the superintendent search. The board s meeting agenda said many other items will be discussed, including a consideration to send students to in-person classes five days a week.
