Heart patient gets help

SHARLENE RAMPERSAD Instead of waiting over a year to see a doctor at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, heart patient Neeranjan Singh will get his echocardiogram done today by a private facility in central Trinidad. Singh, 50, of Tunapuna, shared his struggle of living with congestive heart failure with Guardian Media on Monday. He had sent out an appeal to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, begging him to fix the issues plaguing the cardiac clinic of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after his December 21, 2020 appointment was moved to January 31, 2022, without any explanation. Currently, he has to take 22 tablets and insulin twice a day so his heart does not shut down completely.

Convicted drug trafficker and alleged zesser party organiser shot and killed

Police suspect that the killing of Simon, 44, was drug-related. He was convicted in June 2012 of the offence of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and in March 2014 of possession of firearm and ammunition. Police said that Simon was the organiser of a zesser party at Caroni last month, where 250 people were detained. Police said that the property on which the party was held was owned by Simon. A police report said that at around 9.55 p.m. police were told that a man was shot in the vicinity of D&C Convenience Store at Kelly Village. Officers of the Central Division Task Force (North) and Caroni police responded and were told that the victim was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.

Govt preparing for storage, distribution of COVID vaccine

Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh MP. In anticipation of receiving its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines in the first quarter of 2021, local health authorities are busy preparing facilities for its storage and distribution. And while Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has not able to say exactly which vaccine T&T will be receiving or the costs, he assured storage locations are being readied ahead of time. Speaking during the Ministry of Health’s media briefing on Saturday, he said three sub-zero freezers had already been identified within the country which could be used to store the Pfizer vaccine which has to be kept at -72 degrees celsius.
