Iceland s Síminn signs 5G contract with Ericsson
5h | Melanie Mingas Iceland s Síminn has signed a 5G equipment deal with Ericsson as the country looks to focus on audiovisual and augmented reality to find ways for 5G to boost tourism.
Ericsson is supplying equipment to Iceland s Síminn, building on their established relationship, with a deal for 5G RAN products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, including Ericsson Spectrum Sharing.
Síminn will deploy 5G on 3.5-3.6GHz mid-band spectrum. The mid-band 5G deployment significantly enhances throughput to unlock the full potential of 5G. It can also be the key to unlocking a huge range of new opportunities in areas such as gaming, transport and manufacturing.

O2 Slovakia, the provider of mobile service in Slovakia, has tapped Ericsson as its technology partner for commercial 5G rollout and modernisation of existing 2G, 3G, and 4G radio access network (RAN) infrastructures.
The Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company said in a press release that the contract follows a multi-vendor trial that took place across the service provider’s 5G pilot networks in Bratislava in late 2020.
