Winter Fuel Payments are specifically designed to assist eligible people with the cost of their heating bills as Britain experiences a cold snap. With more time spent indoors, it is likely energy bills will soar, and the payments could offer vital aid to certain people. The sum will be available to those born on or before October 5, 1954, who lived in the UK during what is known as the qualifying week.
The enquiry line is open from Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 3:30pm to provide support to Britons in this situation.
In addition, to be eligible for a Winter Fuel Payment, Britons must have lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of September 21 to 27, 2020.
This is known as the qualifying week and is vital to unlocking a payment.
However, if a person did not live in the UK during this week, they may still be entitled to the payment if both of the following apply:
a person lives in a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland
It is available to many people who were born on or before October 6, 1954, and should be issued automatically in most cases.
However, there are eligibility rules to bear in mind when it comes to the Winter Fuel Payment, and this could mean some lose out.
To be eligible, Britons must have lived in the UK for at least one day during the qualifying week of September 21 to 27, 2020.
But the payment is also available to expats living in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) who have what is known as a ‘genuine and sufficient’ link to the UK.
