Police personnel fanned across the district on Saturday to enforce the additional restrictions that have been imposed during the weekend to contain the pandemic.
That many personnel are off duty, having tested positive for COVID, made the task all the more difficult. A total of 54 personnel in Ernakulam Rural recently tested positive.
Action was taken against those violating curbs announced by State government. Commuters who could provide proof that they were travelling due to unavoidable reasons were permitted to continue their journey.

With no let-up in the spread of the resurgent pandemic, the Ernakulam Rural Police have intensified surveillance in containment zones.
All wards in Edathala, Mazhuvannoor, and Vengola panchayats in the district have been declared containment zones. At present, there are 361 containment zones across the district.
All roads leading outside to the zones have been barricaded and entry to outsiders remains banned. Those found loitering needlessly will be strictly dealt with, said K. Karthik, District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural).

50 CCTV cameras installed in rural areas under the project
A total of 50 CCTV cameras were installed in areas under the Munambam police station limits, as part of an initiative of the Ernakulam Rural Police, on Sunday.
District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K. Karthik launched the project by switching on the cameras at a programme held at the Munambam police station.
The project named ‘Thousand Eyes’, being implemented with the help of local residents and CSR funds of companies, aims to install cameras across the district in such a way that they can be accessed from the command and control centre of the Ernakulam Rural Police in Aluva.

Restrictions applicable to weddings and funerals too
With the State government taking a serious note of the spike in COVID-19 cases and considering tightening up restrictions, the Ernakulam Rural Police have embarked on an awareness campaign.
Accordingly, the police have begun making public announcements on the need to comply with the COVID-19 protocol, including proper wearing of masks and maintaining physical distancing.

He faces charges of assault, theft, and rape
The Ernakulam Rural Police arrested a man who was accused in multiple cases in various stations in the past four years under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
Manaf, 30, of Keezhmadu stands accused in seven cases in Aluva East and Edathala. Among the charges levelled against him were assault, theft, and rape.
The arrest was made under Operation Dark Hunt being carried out by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) K. Karthik as part of cleansing the rural limits of anti-social elements.
