La vida que no es nuestra (lit. “
The Life That Is Not Ours”), the second film by
Israel González, following
Fuel (2019), has a screenplay penned by the director himself, which tells the story of El Javi, a boy from the suburbs who, after a two-year stretch in prison, is released and resolves to change his life. By coincidence, he meets Laura, and a love affair blossoms between them. Caught in the middle of all this are the protagonist’s younger brother, Carlitos, a small-time crook with a certain reputation in his social circles (for being a troublemaker through-and-through), and their father José Manuel, a man who has given in to solitude and nostalgia, who will find himself at a crossroads, hurtling towards a hellish life on the streets.
