EL PASO COUNTY â April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and 2020 was a difficult year.
The adults who are considered mandatory reporters, such as teachers and other health care professionals, weren t seeing kids as often during the pandemic. As a result, DHS saw a significant decrease in calls to the child abuse and neglect hotline.
Officials with the El Paso County Health Department, now say calls are trending right back up again.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced Friday it had halted a clinic s administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in Colorado Springs due to irregularities in the storage and handling of the vaccine.
CDPHE said the El Paso County Health Department alerted the Joint Vaccine Task Force after observing a failure to comply with storage protocols at Dr. Moma Health and Wellness Clinic.
Routine food inspections return to county establishments

EL PASO COUNTY â Over the last year, the El Paso County Health Department has not performed one routine on-site inspection at any of the local food establishments.
Retail food program manager for the county, Sammi Jo Lawson, says the inspection team had to work from home for the majority of last year.
Therefore, they weren t able to regulate retail food like usual.
It s something that has some restaurant-goers a bit worried. Taking proper precautions even with the pandemic, I think they could have been doing them, said Anthony Jasserd.
Two COVID-19 variants most prevalent in El Paso County
