Many school districts across the country are starting to have kids returning to the classrooms for in-person learning. In the borderland, El Paso Independent School District will begin phasing in-person learning at schools starting on Tuesday, January 19th according to KTSM. Since many children are returning to schools for the first time since the pandemic began, parents are wondering what they should send their children to school with to make sure they stay safe while back inside classrooms. Luckily, some teachers have been extremely helpful by giving parents a list of additional items kids should be sent to school with.
FCC Settles With IBM For $24.25M Over E-Rate Violations

On Wednesday, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it reached a $24.25 million settlement with IBM for the company’s purported violations of the FCC’s E-Rate program rules in relation to New York City and El Paso, Texas, school districts; this funding will be returned to the Universal Service Fund. The Universal Service Fund is the means by which, prior to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, interstate carriers were assessed to subsidize telephone service to low-income Americans and high-cost areas. The E-Rate program provides discounts on telecommunications services to schools and libraries.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) Nine months since Borderland school districts first started remote learning, many are finding new ways to adapt to teaching a curriculum through a screen. Remote learning can be particularly challenging for social and emotional education, as many interpersonal skills are developed through face-to-face interactions. The more that we look at what employers are looking at when students graduate from high school and college are the interpersonal skills, said Ray Lozano, the executive director of student and family empowerment at the El Paso Independent School District.
