ELKTON â A crash at an Elkton intersection on Wednesday left one of the vehicles on its side and the other showing extensive damage â and, even so, the drivers and a sole passenger walked away with only minor injuries, police reported.
âThere was significant damage, so we are very fortunate that there were no serious injuries,â commented Lt. Lawrence Waldridge, an Elkton Police Department spokesman.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Marianne Sponagle, 64, of North East, was traveling in the northbound lane of North Bridge Street (Route 213) at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, when she attempted to make a left turn onto Elkton Boulevard (Route 545), after exiting the northern end of the bridge, police reported.

ELKTON - On May 25, 2020, Emanuel Alcides Greaves allegedly punched a rival in an Elkton neighborhood - triggering a Memorial Day street brawl that resulted in investigators charging the man who had suffered the blow to his face with attempted murder after he purportedly fired a handgun three times during the ensuing melee.
One of the errant shots allegedly fired by that suspect, Deshan Marquet Huntsman II, 26, of Edgewood, reportedly was intended for Greaves, police reported at the time.
On Tuesday - exactly one year later - investigators filed several firearm charges against Greaves, 21, after they confiscated a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in downtown Elkton, according to Cecil County District Court records.
ELKTON â A teen allegedly pulled a handgun on a man and his two daughters â pointing it in their general direction â after they chided him for driving too fast through their Elkton neighborhood, according to Cecil County District Court records.
Elkton Police Department officers arrested the suspect, Tyler Anthony Mayberry, 18, shortly after the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Friday in the 300 block of Hollingsworth Manor, where Mayberry lives a few doors away from the alleged victimsâ residence, court records show.
EPD officers responded to the alleged victimsâ residence, after receiving a complaint about âsomeone pointing a handgun at them and threatening them,â police said. Officers interviewed the man and his two daughters, all of whom gave similar accounts of the incident, police added.
