Dame Ellen MacArthur is calling on Round the Island Race sailors to inspire young people to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer while celebrating the race s 90th anniversary by racing to raise 90 in 90 as her charity prepares to set sail again in 2021.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is once again the official charity of this year s Round the Island Race and you can help change hundreds of young lives by fundraising for the Trust through taking part in the race.
Young people are set to be back on the water with the Trust this year after COVID saw all their 2020 sailing and outdoor activities cancelled. And to celebrate this, and the race s 90th anniversary, the Trust is inviting entrants to raise at least £90 - either individually or as boats - by encouraging family and friends to sponsor you in this year s race.
Rotarians in Warwick have been playing their part in supporting young people in their fight against cancer.
Support from Rotarians across Warwickshire, including Warwick Rotary Club, will this year help inspire young people supported by Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.
Christina Micklewright, community fundraiser from Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, joined an online meeting last week to tell Warwick Rotarians how their support will make a difference in helping the Trust get young people back on the water after a Covid-disrupted year.

A DEDICATED Redditch woman is celebrating after being named a cancer charity’s volunteer of the year. Wen Stone, aged 31, who was raised in the town and went to the RSA Academy Arrow Vale school, has been honoured by the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. She was presented with the trust’s Luke Gilbert Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of the difference she has made to the lives of young people living with cancer. The charity aims to inspire young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future through sailing and outdoor activity. Wen herself was diagnosed with very severe aplastic anaemia – or bone marrow failure - in 2010. Within two weeks she had a bone marrow transplant and in five years had 148 blood transfusions.
New races for 2021, including Round the Solent and Round the Island Rowing Race
A new ‘Round the Solent’ Race for small keelboats will take place on the same day as Round the Island
The Island Sailing Club are delighted to announce the launch of the first Windeler Cup, a new race for small keelboats that will run on the same day as the world-famous Round the Island Race, Saturday 3rd July 2021.
The race will allow boats which are too small to safely participate in the annual circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight to join in the excitement of the Round the Island Race weekend. Entries open on 16th April 2021.
