Migrant COVID Cases Jump 900 Percent In Rio Grande Valley Sector

COVID-19 cases among apprehended migrants in the Rio Grande Valley sector along our Southern border have jumped 900 percent over the last 14 months, according to an exclusive report from Fox News. The report found that the Rio Grande Valley region detained 135 COVID-19 positive migrants, accounting for 60 percent of all positive COVID-19 cases across all the border regions migrants attempt to cross.  In a local radio interview, the Chief of the Rio Grande Valley Sector Brian Hastings told KURV 710 AM that over 40 of his border patrol agents have tested positive for COVID-19 during the fiscal year. This new data comes as border apprehensions pass 1 million for the first time since 2006, now on track to set a new record and that will surpass both 1986’s 1.69 million apprehensions and 2000’s 1.67 million apprehensions.

To be a conservative at this moment should give you an immense feeling of pride. Looking back at 2020, it is stunning to see how many of The Heritage Foundation’s ideas were embraced by members of Congress, by the administration, and by allied think tanks and grassroots leaders across America and around the world. Conservative solutions have proven across time and place to be the only way to ensure the survival of our nation and see us through challenging events like the ones we faced in 2020. Think about the COVID-19 pandemic. Americans are faring better in states where policymakers have followed Heritage’s recommendations and not imposed sweeping COVID-19 lockdowns, but rather used data to determine whether and where such rash measures are even necessary.

(AP Photo/Cedar Attanasio) FILE more >ANALYSIS/OPINION: Weak leadership and politically motivated pandering from the Biden-Harris administration have launched America into a self-inflicted crisis. The unofficial numbers of illegal border crossers for March exceeded any single month in more than 20 years. This catastrophe at the border puts children and families in danger, places our law enforcement in an impossible position, and risks exacerbating the pandemic in this country. This crisis could have been avoided, but instead, it has been spurred on by failed leaders in Washington and Richmond who pretend there is no
