Chinese Investment Hurting Key Local Industries and Local Businessmen
Chinese companies are taking over major businesses in Pakistan’s export-led manufacturing sector, stated a report published by Hong Kong-based online news platform Asia Times.
The report said that while on one hand, rising Chinese investment is helping boost Pakistan’s ailing economy, on the other hand, the local businesses and groups are expressing concerns that the Chinese investors are cornering key local industries, state assets, and businesses to the detriment of Pakistani players and interests.
According to a report issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s World Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan increased from $1.7 billion in 2018 to $2.2 billion in 2019. The accumulated FDI for the year for Pakistan amounted to $34.8 billion with China being the biggest contributor.

UNFCCC terms Pakistan GHG emissions more scientific than India s, NA body told Thu 21st January 2021 | 03:00 PM
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jan, 2021 ) :The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on Thursday termed the Green House Gas (GAG) emissions data more scientific with better authenticity as compared to the information shared by India at the global forum.
Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul informed this to National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change headed by Member National Assembly Munaza Hassan that Pakistan was taking measures to contain GHG emissions through its meager resources without any support from the UNFCCC.
RAWALPINDI: The construction work on Daducha Dam was formally launched on Thursday by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) after locals ended their protest on administration’s assurance that their demands would be fulfilled.
Last week, the construction work on dam was stopped by the local residents while demanding to increase the compensation money, rehabilitation of the locals and other benefits.
Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq held meeting with the landholders and sent proposals to Punjab government with the solution of their two demands.
In the meantime, the landholders’ representative allowed starting the work on construction of dam.
On Thursday, a ceremony was also held in this regard. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Saddar Mehar Ghulam Abbas Haral, Small Dams Organization and other departments’ officials attended the ceremony.
