Evansville Residents Thought Unusually Loud Plane Might Crash
Among my many quirks, is my fear of airplane crashes. Let me be clear, I LOVE to fly in airplanes and helicopters, I m not afraid of that at all. My specific fear is that I will actually see a plane crash. When I was very little I had a reoccurring dream of a giant grey plane flying low over the Pigeon Creek Bridge and then crashing. It was so vivid, and long before that crash was a reality. Thursday, February 6, 1992, a C-130 military plane was doing some practice flights and came from the South across Highway 41, preparing to land, but instead, it fell from the sky.
It ll bring an end to a dry if also unusual April in the Tri-State. The first 27 days of the month brought only 1.07 inches of precipitation at Evansville Regional Airport, well below an average April s 4.37 inches. That total included a bizarre spring snowfall on April 20 that dropped 1.3 inches of snow in Evansville, part of a frozen-weather event that produced about 0.22 inches of liquid equivalent.
Some good news: The weekend looks sunny and pleasant. High temperatures will go from 66 on Friday to 71 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday.
The next chance of rain returns to the region on Monday, when scattered showers are in the forecast.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. American Airlines in May will resume its twice-daily connection between Evansville Regional Airport and Chicago, which was suspended last year as the coronavirus pandemic gripped the nation.
The pandemic stifled travel from spring 2020 forward, forcing American and other carriers to ground several regular flights. But with vaccinations increasing, more people are flying.
EVV saw 9,224 enplanements in March, up from about 7,000 in January and February. Executive Director Nate Hahn said 10,000 is possible for April, and the May 6 return of EVV’s Chicago connection via American also will grow passengers.
EVV’s once-a-day connection to Chicago via United Airlines remained in service during the pandemic, so resuming the American flights will take EVV’s daily Chicago connections to three. Airport officials said it’s possible United could add a second Chicago flight this summer.
