On Monday, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and the other members of Utahâs congressional delegation sent a letter to President Joe Biden regarding the boundaries of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments.
âWe call upon you, and your administration, to support and engage in finding a long-term legislative solution and stop the vacillation of national monument boundaries in Utah,â the letter reads. âWe remain prepared to work in good faith and hope you do as well.â
In their letter, the Utah representatives asked the Biden administration for their assistance in finding a permanent legislative solution to these boundary disputes and statutory protections to prevent abuses of the Antiquities Act.
GSENM accepting applications for 2021 Artist-In-Residence Program
KANAB, Utah The Bureau of Land Management is pleased to announce applications are now being accepted for this year’s Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) Plein Air Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program, sponsored through a partnership between the Monument, Escalante Canyons Art Festival (ECAF) and Glen Canyon Conservancy.
Together, sponsors will select one artist resident to live and work in and around Escalante, Utah while serving as an ambassador for GSENM. The residency is limited to artists who produce two-dimensional work in the plein air style. By promoting a deeper connection to the natural, cultural and historic resources of GSENM, the residency provides an opportunity for learning and dialogue about the value of the National Conservation Lands and their connection to the local community.

The 2010s were marked by growing tensions across the West, as right-wing organizations rebelled against the person and policies of President Barack Obama, and a diverse coalition of liberal-minded activists came together to fight extractive energy projects, climate change, and racial and economic injustice.
Galvanized by the election of our first African American president and connected by new social media tools, hundreds of right-wing protesters descended on the Nevada ranch of Cliven Bundy in 2014. Bundy had already made a name for himself for refusing to pay over $1 million in grazing fees for his use of federal lands. Two years later, an armed militia led by Bundy’s son, Ammon, seized the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters in eastern Oregon, demanding that public lands managed by the federal government be turned over to the states. That conflict lasted 40 days and resulted in the death of one militia member, numerous arres
