PENSACOLA, Florida A mother and daughter in Pensacola, Florida, have been accused of rigging a high school homecoming court election by accessing accounts without authorization, authorities said Monday. Laura Rose Carroll, 50, was arrested Monday and booked into the Escambia County Jail with a bond of $8,500, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said in a news release. Her 17-year-old daughter was taken into custody and transferred to the Escambia Regional Juvenile Detention Center, it said. When reached by CNN, a man identifying himself as Carroll s husband, said, We have no comment right now. Our lawyers told us not to speak and we will have our day in court.

Florida assistant principal, daughter accused of hacking to rig homecoming election Updated Mar 17, 2021; PENSACOLA, Florida The assistant principal of an elementary school and her 17-year-old daughter are facing charges after they were accused of hacking student records in order to rig a homecoming queen election last fall. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced in a Facebook post that Laura Rose Carroll, 50, and her daughter, a senior at Tate High School, were arrested on multiple charges in connection with fraudulently accessing confidential student information. The FDLE says it was contacted in November by the Escambia County School District when it discovered there had been unauthorized access into hundreds of student accounts. Investigators say they found that Carroll, an assistant principal at Bellview Elementary School, and her daughter had accessed student FOCUS accounts. Carroll reportedly had district-level access to the accounts.
