View Comments A man was in custody Tuesday night after the chilling attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl in broad daylight earlier in the day.  Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons confirmed to the News Journal that a man was in custody and was being questioned by authorities Tuesday evening. The man has prior sexual abuse offenses, Simmons confirmed.  As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the man had not been arrested and his name had not been made public. Earlier in the day, Simmons begged for the public s help in identifying the man, who was seen on camera allegedly trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from her Pensacola bus stop at about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
