CARLSBAD
The Carlsbad City Council will meet in closed session virtually at 4 p.m. Tuesday to discuss litigation. The council will meet in person in open session at 6 p.m. to consider an ordinance setting no-parking zones along both sides of parts of Avenida Encinas, Macadamia Drive and Raintree Drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The council will also consider a proposal to build a four-unit residential air-space condominium on a 0.19-acre site at 635 Pine Ave.
CUSD appoints District Safety Coordinator
The Carlsbad Unified School District has appointed Malcolm Warfield as the District Safety Coordinator, a new part-time position. Warfield has more than 17 years of law enforcement experience, previously working as a deputy sheriff with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and as a law officer with the Lakewood (Colo.) Police Department and a police officer with the Carlsbad Police Department. He is an active member of the California State Juvenile Officers Association, and is an associate faculty member at MiraCosta College. Warfield will serve in a dual role as the Juvenile Justice Program Coordinator for the Carlsbad Police Department and as the Carlsbad school district’s safety coordinator. In his work with the district, he will be the district liaison for School Resource Officers and first responders; will oversee and evaluate site safety plans; and do ongoing evaluation of site security needs.

The Del Mar City Council is scheduled to meet in closed session at 2:45 p.m. Monday and in open session at 4:30 p.m.

ENCINITAS
The city is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission-Leucadia Representative. Application forms must be completed online from the city’s website at https://bit.ly/3qH0tJx. All applicants must be registered voters in the city. Application deadline is 5 p.m. July 22.
CARLSBAD
The Carlsbad City Council met Tuesday to discuss options for resuming in-person public meetings. The council agreed to resume in-person council meetings starting July 13, and changed the start time to 6 p.m. The council held hearings and approved tax levies for the Carlsbad Tourism Business Improvement District and the Carlsbad Golf Lodging Business Improvement District. The council held a public workshop Wednesday on laws and regulations on installing 5G cellular technology and other wireless communication facilities.
