BIWABIK — Two teenagers from International Falls were injured Sunday afternoon when the vehicle they were riding in rolled over on Highway 145 in Biwabik, authorities said.
We hope those who test positive with the COVID-19 antibodies will return to find out if they are a good candidate to donate convalescent plasma, Paul Freher with Innovative Blood Resources said in an email to the News Tribune.
Convalescent plasma is found in people who have had COVID-19 and is used to treat people with the illness. Those who have recovered from COVID-19 can register for a plasma donation at mbc.org/cpdonor.
Memorial Blood Centers is also urging anyone eligible to make a blood donation appointment at one of its four centers in the Northland or one of the upcoming blood drives.
VIRGINIA â Like many frontline health care workers amid the global coronavirus pandemic, life changed pretty quickly this summer for Cindy Davidson. She went from her day-to-day duties as a nurse at the Essentia Health hospital in Virginia to running the siteâs COVID-19 tent in the urgent care parking lot â sometimes delivering the news to coworkers that they tested positive.
On Monday morning, her job changed again as Davidson drew a sign of hope from a small vial removed from the hospitalâs deep freezer and administered the first-ever coronavirus vaccine shot in Virginia to one of counterparts.
âBeing able to bring it here, itâs the most wonderful thing that happened here today,â she said during an interview that afternoon. âIt brings us to tears.â
Luke Mathias Erkkila
Erkkila was on supervised release after serving prison time for a 2013 stabbing incident when he attacked Scott Fitzgerald Kesler outside a Virginia residence July 26, 2019.
According to court documents, Kesler had just arrived at his girlfriend s home on the 800 block of Sixth Avenue South and was getting out of a car when Erkkila approached him.
Kesler later told police that Erkkila said, she s leaving me because of you, before shooting him. The victim said he tried to get the gun away from Erkkila before the defendant began stabbing him multiple times.
When law enforcement arrived on scene they found Kesler sitting on the stairs of an upstairs apartment and was bleeding heavily from his neck and head area from a gunshot wound in the head by his ear, court documents said.
