Laughing about subjects such as the dreaded middle-aged moment when you realise you need a chain to keep you from losing your reading glasses, or your teenagers’ mortification at your mere existence, Emily, 54, comes across as a savvy, wise friend.
Yet Emily’s life has been very different from anyone else’s I know. Obviously, she’s well known as one of our most accomplished actresses, with two Oscar nominations to her name – for her film debut Breaking the Waves and Hilary and Jackie in the late 1990s. More recently, she’s starred in numerous hit television shows such as Apple Tree Yard, Chernobyl and Little Women.

There’s delight and a splash of relief in her voice, which is understandable given how worrying it must have been a year ago to find herself pregnant at the beginning of a global pandemic. ‘I did find the start of it frightening because it was a very scary time,’ says Rochelle. ‘We didn’t have the understanding [of Covid] we have now, so it was like that for a lot of women.’
When Rochelle found out she was pregnant with a third child last spring she already had enough to handle, being on the cusp of launching her first business. ‘Great idea, starting in a pandemic, but it’s worked!’

‘Dad said it was a pipe dream,’ Michelle recalls. ‘He was worried, but the idea that I had my head in the clouds stuck with me. I always have it at the back of my mind. Dad couldn’t be prouder but I look back at that conversation and see how it affected me. I still really suffer from imposter syndrome.’
Those doubts come despite the fact that Michelle, who’s now 33, appears to live the most enviable life imaginable. Once voted the world’s sexiest woman, she and her husband, former Towie star turned TV and radio presenter Mark Wright, were recently revealed as the richest young couple on television, netting £2.6 million between them in the past year alone.

In an interview for You magazine, the Our Girl actress rubbishes speculation that she had caused a strain by spending months away from former The Only Way Is Essex star Wright while filming in South Africa and Malaysia.
‘Going away for work is never seen as a good thing, only as a negative, and I don’t understand that,’ she says. ‘Are you seriously supposed to turn down work in case it impacts your marriage?’
