Health Insurance Fund extends vaccination contracts with private sector

The Health Insurance Fund (Haigekassa) is extending the existing agreements with private healthcare institutions related to vaccination against COVID-19 until the end of August. Private healthcare institutions were first invited to sign contracts with the Health Insurance Fund for carrying out vaccination in March; by Thursday of this week, there were 15 institutions that had joined the contract, the Health Insurance Fund said. All private healthcare providers who have an activity license for the provision of specialist medical care are welcome to join the Health Insurance Fund s contract. The Health Insurance Fund is foremost expecting private healthcare providers located in county centers all over Estonia, that is in places where more people live, to join the contract.

Estonia halts use of Janssen vaccine awaiting EMA decision

Estonia will suspend the use of the Janssen coronavirus vaccine until the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has issued its report next week, the immunoprophylaxis expert committee agreed on Wednesday. The first 2,400 doses of the one-shot U.S. manufactured vaccine reached Estonia on Tuesday but on the same day the USA s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a potential link between blood clots and the vaccine, pausing further vaccinations. In total six reports of an extremely rare blood clotting disorder in combination with low platelets are being investigated. So far, 6.8 million doses of the Janssen vaccine have already been administered.

Tallinners can now apply for first day sick leave benefiits

Tallinners can now apply for the first day of sick leave from the City of Tallinn after the application process opened on Wednesday. The city pays a benefit of €30 to compensate the citizens for their first day of sick leave. Applications for the compensation can be submitted in the city s e-service after the sick leave certificate has been completed and the payment has been made by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (EHIF). Benefit for the first day of illness can be claimed retroactively on the basis of a sick leave certificate issued from March 25. Deputy Mayor Betina Beškina said the city of Tallinn pays its residents the benefit in order to encourage people to take a sick leave as early as possible when the primary symptoms of illness occur.
