ICPHD prepares for tier two of vaccine rollout IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY), While the vaccine rollout across the U.S. has been slower than anticipated, the Imperial County Public Health Department says the rollout in the Imperial Valley is running smoothly. So far a total of 3,550 vaccines have arrived in Imperial County. Although people may be wondering why only 1,000 hundred vaccines have been administered, the health department says it wasn t until last Tuesday that they received about 1,300 hundred more vaccines. The health department says almost all hospital staff, local physicians, and emergency operations staff that want the vaccine have received it.

Local vaccination begins

The health department said the five employees will be responsible for administering the vaccine to others. ICPHD received 975 doses of the vaccine this week. Distribution of the new vaccine, which was granted federal emergency use authorization Dec. 11, will first go to persons who fall within Phase 1A of the California Department of Public Health’s allocation guidelines. These include high-risk workers in healthcare facilities, first responders and patients and staff of long-term care facilities. El Centro Regional Medical Center will begin vaccinating workers on Monday, the hospital announced. Recipients of the vaccine will be administered a second dose after 21 days.

(KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Health Officials say it will be receiving its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna this week. Health officials say the vaccine will arrive between today and Wednesday. The shipment will include 1,200 doses of which the Imperial County Public Health Department will receive 200, El Centro Regional Medical Center 600 doses, and Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District with 400 doses. Last week, the county received its first shipment from Pfizer. Officials say the vaccines will continue to be given to people in Phase 1a, which includes high-risk workers in healthcare settings, first responders, and patients and staff of long-term care facilities.
