A portion of Monroe Street was reopened Wednesday night, more than 30 hours after a crash that critically injured a woman and damaged a utility pole in Indio.
The road was shutdown as crews worked on a full pole replacement along Monroe between Highway 111 and Avenida Del Mar, Imperial Irrigation District spokesman Robert Schettler said. The crew has been working around the clock, he said. We re not taking breaks to even have lunch. We re working right through it.
The repairs were expected to cost about $50,000. IID budgets money for repairs, but the agency will still seek reimbursement from the responsible party, Schettler said.
