London s best museums

If you’ve been in London for a while and haven’t yet spent a couple of days wandering around its biggest and best museums, you’re missing out WORDS Tom Sturrock
So with winter loitering with intent just around the corner, set aside a rainy afternoon for a spot of museum-going. Here are the Big Five to check out straight off the bat:
Natural History Museum
Overview: Exhibits aside, the building housing the museum is breathtaking, with its ornate Victorian frontage and cavernous entrance hall. So take a few minutes to check out the architecture before immersing yourself in this meticulous catalogue of the natural world.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has told the Dáil that he will pursue both the British and Northern Irish authorities regarding the no-warning car-bomb attack on Belturbet, Co Cavan, in which two teenage civilians were murdered in 1972.
Loyalist paramilitaries were responsible for the bombing which killed Geraldine O Reilly, 15, and Paddy Stanley, 16. However there have also been allegations of collusion by British security forces in the attack.
Mr Martin told the Dáil that he would pursue the matter with the British authorities and the authorities in Northern Ireland because the families involved have been left with no answers or closure.

But Sir Keir Starmer said the awards meant the absolute world to recipients
Sir Keir Starmer today slapped down shadow education secretary Kate Green after she labelled the UK honours system divisive and offensive .
Ms Green said the system needed to be reformed because of its British empire branding which is hurtful to people .

But Sir Keir, who received his knighthood in 2014 in recognition of his work as director of public prosecutions, said he disagreed with Ms Green and he intends to speak to her about her comments.

Sculptor Mel French regards the bronze statue in Belturbet as her most personal project. Two handsome figures – a long-haired schoolgirl with dancing shoes and an athletic young man with a football at his feet – face out onto Main Street. These sculptures represent two teenagers, local girl Geraldine O Reilly, 15, and Paddy Stanley, 16, from Clara, Co Offaly, both of whom perished on 28 December 1972 when a powerful car bomb ripped through the Co Cavan border town.
