Two INEC Offices Set Ablaze by Unknown Hoodlums 0 likes 0 comments   Unidentified persons have set two offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ebonyi State on fire, leading to severe damages to the buildings. The electoral body which shared details of the incident on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday morning explained that the affected buildings are in Ebonyi and Ezza North local government areas of the state. “Last night, Tuesday 18th May 2021, two INEC offices in Ebonyi and Ezza North Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State were burnt down by unidentified persons,” the electoral body tweeted. It noted that no person was injured during the attack which took place on Tuesday.

Views: 172 Some unknown persons in the early hours of Wednesday attacked and set ablaze two offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi State, Nigeria’s South-east. The offices are located at Ezza North and Izzi local government areas of the state. INEC spokesperson in Ebonyi State, Cornelius Ali, confirmed the attack to reporters in Abakaliki. Mr Ali said the fire destroyed power generating sets, voting cubicles and other materials in the affected facilities. The commission’s officials in the state have visited the facilities to assess the level of damage, Mr Ali said. He, however, allayed fears that the attack might jeopardise the forthcoming continuous voter registration exercise slated for June.

Daily Post Nigeria Published The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, on Wednesday, ordered for the immediate querying of three local government chairmen and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Samuel Okoronkwo for failure to protect, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, offices in their areas. The affected council chairmen include; Mrs Nora Alo of Ezza north LGA, Chinyere Nwaogbaga Ebonyi LGA and Mr Paul Nwaogha of Izzi LGA for allowing hoodlums to attack, raze the facilities of the independent national electoral commission, INEC, in their LGAs. Umahi made this known while briefing journalists shortly after an enlarged Executive Council meeting that took place at the old government house House, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi state.
